Over the weekend, Harper told voters that he would invest 8 million every year to fund a new RCMP human trafficking force in four major cities, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Calgary. Conservatives told the press that this commitment: “will facilitate coordination between national and local law enforcement officials.” The upcoming election is only three weeks away.
This past week, US representatives have raised concerns about the government's reallocation of law-enforcement resources from trafficking to immigration enforcement. They join advocates in warning this reprioritization puts more people at risk of trafficking.
