Call on the Indian Government to help end child slavery

Every day, millions of children in India wake up with nothing to look forward to except hours of back-breaking labor working everywhere from stone quarries to carpet factories to rice mills. Children as young as five years-old are kept from school, forced to work seven days a week for up to 18 hours a day and end up with crippling injuries, respiratory disorders and chronic pain.

You might be aware that the Indian Government is proposing to amend the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act, legislation that can stop this exploitation, but only if the proposed amendments are strong enough.

The good news is that the Government is seeking comments on proposed amendments from the public – until 15 July, 1 a big opportunity for us to demand strong provisions that will go a long way in combating such exploitation.

With millions of children enslaved in India today the need for tough laws against child exploitation has never been greater.

We have until 15 July for our voice to be heard. The more messages we send, the greater our chance of ensuring that the Act that’s voted upon later is strong enough to help end exploitation of children.

Take action now and show that we stand united behind ending child slavery in India.

Chip in and help end modern slavery once and for all.
