Italy, stop fueling trafficking in Libya

Italy releases Libyan war crimes suspect

Make your voice heard

On October 14, 153 members of the lower house of Italy’s Parliament backed renewal of the deal with Libya—by parties in Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s coalition.

But not everyone in Parliament agreed. 112 MPs voted against the renewal. Hundreds of people took to the streets in Rome. Human rights defenders, faith leaders, survivors and lawmakers have raised a collective voice against Italy’s agreement with Libya.

Because this year alone:

— Over 700 people have died crossing the Mediterranean Sea trying to reach Europe.1
— Over 19,000 people have been returned and put at risk of forced labor, torture, or sexual violence.2
— Italy has increased the crackdown on rescue vessels, detaining and fining NGOs up to €10,000 for saving lives.3
— Italy released a war criminal under arrest by the International Criminal Court for torture—then quietly folded him into a private jet flight home.4

The renewal hasn’t taken effect yet. Italy is set to renew its deadly migration agreement with Libya on November 2. That gives us days of opportunity.

Meloni still has the power to stop it.

She must feel the pressure now.

Join the global outcry. Send her a message she won’t forget.

Tell her: The world is watching.

Chip in and help end modern slavery once and for all.

I thought how strong she looked among all the much taller ruling men but dislike some of her policies. Italy has gone down the fascist route before – Mussolini created that word as he became one & I hope she has seen the same footage as I have on the death of Mussolini & his mistress!

We appeal to you to recognize that immigration will save Italy’s economy by reducing its declining population!

La Meloni deve vergognarsi. Non ha nessuna compassione per chi soffre. Mi vergogno io stessa del nostro governo.

Cancel the Libya deal!

Prime Minister Meloni,

I am writing to express my outrage at your government’s intention to renew the migration agreement with Libya which knowingly puts migrants and refugees at risk of torture, slavery, abuse and even death.

Your government cannot pretend it does not know what happens to migrants intercepted and returned to Libya. The United Nations has documented it. Human rights groups have exposed it. Survivors have testified to it. Renewing this agreement makes you complicit in these crimes.

The vote in the Deputy of Chambers does not absolve you. There is still time to act. And there is still time for you to be remembered differently. If you proceed, you will be remembered as the Prime Minister who chose cruelty, knowing exactly what it would cost.

I join thousands across the world demanding that you stop this renewal now.

History is watching.
