Summit Suggests Human Trafficking Solutions

Labor Secretary Perez at the Human Rights First Summit praises the work of abolitionists who have seen significant successes in the past ten years, but reminded them that there’s much left to do…

Every state in America has enacted anti-trafficking laws and many now have task forces aimed at enforcement.  the number of prosecutions on the federal level has risen 700%.  He urged continued effort to eliminate slavery from supply chains and called for more coalition and cooperation between all organizations. Success will require “unprecedented levels of collaboration and partnership.”  He says that more and more companies are finding that “the high road, is the smart road for business.”  It is not unusual for a large company to do business with another company located in a country where workers are not protected.  “We’re all in the prevention business.”
