Field report: Research to Improve Prevention Programs (Thailand)

Goal:

Freedom Story (formerly The SOLD Project) believes education is key to preventing child exploitation. Our goal was to fund an evaluation project to uncover how their programs are impacting children and communities in Thailand.

Summary:

Research is critical in the fight against modern slavery.  It has shown us that millions of people are enslaved worldwide. Freedom Story believes there is a need to evaluate their programs to ensure their initiatives were effective. The research team from The Freedom Story sought to interview organizations around Thailand, doing statistical research on the topic of prevention.

Additionally, the team wanted to perform group studies with students the organization was already working with. Within a year, their goal was to be able to update their programs in order to more effectively work to prevent millions of from being trafficked.

Outcome:

Thanks to donations from our supporters and one generous matching sponsor, Republic Wireless, Freedom Story has fully funded an evaluation project to uncover how their programs are impacting children and communities in Thailand. The goal of $10,000 was exceeded in just 90 days.

Note:

According to the US Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, Thailand is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children trafficked for the purposes of forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation.

The Freedom Story

The Freedom Story – formerly the SOLD project – prevents child trafficking and exploitation through culturally relevant programs for vulnerable children and shares their stories to empower people to act. The organization was born from a documentary film seeking to expose child sexual exploitation in Thailand and a single scholarship to an at-risk student. Now, the Freedom Story’s  scholarships and resources empower at-risk Thai students to stay in school, pursue their dreams, and break the cycle of poverty and exploitation.
