Many are aware of the adverse environmental effects, but what about the effects on humans–abuse by low to no pay, control through fear, false promises, coercion, etc. The US and Environmental Justice Foundation–EJF–estimates that 90+ percent of all workers on Thai boats are illegal migrant workers from Cambodia and Burma and many are treated as slave labor.
Iranians have taken to the streets repeatedly over the past 17 years to protest their authoritarian government. The demonstrations now unfolding appear to be among the largest yet. Protests that began in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, sparked by economic collapse, have spread to universities and cities nationwide.
