Major sporting events regularly fuel unsupported claims about spikes in sex trafficking while ignoring evidence, overlooking labor trafficking, and increasing stigma toward consensual adult sex workers. When events like the FIFA World Cup come to Atlanta, public conversations about human trafficking are usually shaped by fear, sensationalism, and misinformation.
Red Light District’s Trafficking Misinformation campaign aims to challenge these harmful narratives and promote policies rooted in facts, human rights, and community safety—but they need your help.
That’s why we are asking you to add your voice to the campaign and pledge to:
Support Sex Work Publicly:
Stand with sex workers by affirming that consensual adult sex work is not the same as human trafficking. Speaking up reduces stigma, encourages access to services, and strengthens community safety.
Advocate for Better Laws:
Current laws and definitions can blur the lines between trafficking, consensual sex work, mutual aid, and community support. Contact your local legislator and urge them to revisit provisions within laws and related statutes to ensure trafficking laws target coercion, force, and exploitation while protecting the rights and safety of adults engaged in consensual work.
i.e., GA Senate Bill 547: Georgia Senate Bill 547 increased prostitution-related offenses from misdemeanors to felonies, making clear legal definitions more important than ever. This is why definitions matter; broad language can harm consensual adults and their support networks while making it harder to focus on actual trafficking and exploitation.
Share Accurate Information:
Download and distribute the Calling Offsides toolkit, which includes myths-v-facts resources, social media graphics, educational materials, and tools to help individuals and organizations recognize the difference between supporting sex workers and combat human trafficking.
Take the Game Play pledge today and help us address misinformation about human trafficking.
