Child Brides in Africa are a Growing Issue

On Thursday, UNICEF released a report saying that there are 125 million girls in Africa who are child brides.  And the number is expected to increase…

Many child brides are subjected to rape and beatings. Village families receive as much as $600 to sell their daughters. For the most part, it is simply a tradition. These young women often live lives of violence and poverty.  Their futures are bleak, and they are highly at risk of HIV.  UNICEF is demanding stronger efforts to end it.
