Qatar and the ILO to work together to protect worker rights

On 8 November, the Governing body of the ILO decided not to move forward with establishing an independent commission to investigate forced labor and the exploitation of migrant workers in Qatar, ahead of the 2022 World Cup. A three-year technical cooperation programme has been developed through which the ILO and the Government of Qatar will work together to ensure that labor practices in the country are in line with international labor standards. The Government of Qatar has also committed to work with the ILO to ensure the protection and promotion of migrant worker’s rights, and to replace the kafala system with contractual employment.

Modern slavery exists in every country across the world. It thrives on silence. Subscribe to our newsletter and help end it.
