Sponsorship’ system, common in the Middle East, allowing foreign workers to be brought into a country under strict rules, as employers are tied to their employees without the possibility of changing jobs or leaving the country without permission. The system denies basic human rights of migrant workers and exposes thousands of individuals to slavery-like conditions and forced labour.
