Guestworkers Win $20 Million After being Trafficked

Twelve guestworkers and their bosses win an unprecedented case and receive $20 million…

The men from India came to work on the Gulf Coast to repair damages left by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  A maritime company had imported around 500 workers whom they abused.  But on the 10th anniversary of Katrina, the workers and their bosses finally got restitution with a victory in a landmark suit. The Southern Poverty Law Center that helped represent the workers heralded the victory because it exposed one of the darkest aspects of forced labor: The trans-national black market of migrants trafficked for the purpose of forced labor.  An official apology by the facilities was part of the $20 million case (for 12 men), one of the biggest in America.
