Dear Cynthia Echeverria, Acting Director of Trade Policy, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Washington,

I am concerned that there are no valid means for companies to verify whether any workplace in the Uyghur Region is free of forced labor nor to prevent the use of forced labor in these workplaces, thus adhering to human rights due diligence.

As such, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) must operate on the assumption that all products produced in part or in whole in China’s Uyghur Region are tainted by forced labor. CBP should therefore prohibit the importation of these products without exception to strongly denounce the atrocities being committed against Uyghurs and other Turkic minorities in China.

I urge you to ask importers of high-risk products to provide comprehensive supply-chain data. Importers of high-risk products should only be allowed to import those products on the condition that they provide full supply-chain traceability and can prove by clear and convincing evidence that the supply chain is free of Uyghur forced labor.

Yours sincerely,
