SUMMARY:Modern slavery and consumption
DESCRIPTION:“Modern slavery involves “a relationship in which one person is controlled by another through violence\, the threat of violence\, or psychological coercion\, and has lost free will and free movement\, is exploited economically\, and is paid nothing beyond subsistence” (Bales et al. 2009\, p. 31). While insights into modern slavery among both academics and practitioners have significantly increased\, there is a lack of research on the role of consumers. This is surprising as in the UK the 2015 Modern Slavery Act presents the consumer as a key stakeholder in enforcement.
