SUMMARY:OECD Forum on Due Diligence in the Garment and Footwear Sector
DESCRIPTION:“The OECD Garment Forum convenes representatives from government\, business\, workers and civil society to discuss key issues and risks related to due diligence in global garment and footwear supply chains in a neutral environment. A common denominator of the discussions is the OECD Due Diligence for Responsible Supply Chains in the Garment and Footwear Sector. The OECD Forum pushes the needle by focusing on challenging processes and issues related to due diligence and driving towards solutions. The Forum also plays a role in supporting alignment across governments and industry initiatives on expectations of business. \nThe theme of the 2022 Forum is Rethinking The Business Model For Responsible Supply Chains. Discussions will consider key developments in the sector\, some affecting the very essence of supply chain structures and the capacity of different actors to adopt risk-based due diligence in their day to day activities. A series of panel sessions will explore which type of business models and broader policy initiatives deliver better practice on RBC\, across topics from purchasing practices to supply chain dialogue structures\, from living wages to climate risk mitigation and adaptation\, and from mandatory due diligence to public procurement. Together\, participants will focus on opportunities and next steps for scaling those initiatives that demonstrate impact.” \nFind the full agenda here.

SUMMARY:Online Forum: Human Trafficking Through an International Lens
DESCRIPTION:“This forum will examine forms of human trafficking around the world\, considering both the UK’s response and the global industries complicit. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the forum we will hear from the Coalition to End Forced Labour\, calling on companies to ensure they are not complicit in the systematic forced labour of Uyghur people in China\, with a Parliamentary update on the UK’s response to following the 2021 tribunal. \nThe forum will revisit migrants in Quatar subject to exploitative labour conditions ahead of the World Cup 2022\, looking at the FairSquare report ‘in the prime of their lives: Qatar’s failure to investigate\, remedy and prevent migrant workers’ deaths.’ \nWe will also discuss the international response to human trafficking in locations of conflict from the exploitation of Rohingya children in Bangladeshi camps to the trafficking of Yazidi women in Iraq at the hands of ISIS and strategies to support survivors looking at the launch of the International NRM handbook. \nFinally\, we will learn about forced organ harvesting in China from the Coalition to End Transplant Abuse and the amendment to the Health and Care Bill in the UK addressing the issue of organ trafficking. \nSpeakers include Chloe Cranson (Anti-Slavery International)\, Luke de Pulford (Arise Foundation)\, James Lynch (Fair Square\, Human Rights and Advocacy Research)\, Victoria Ledwidge (Coalition to End Transplant Abuse)\, a survivor advocate against the sexual exploitation of Yazidi women and Rachel Witkin (Helen Bamber Foundation). \nThere will also be time to join the discussion and to ask questions.”
