SUMMARY:Art is Freedom
DESCRIPTION:Art is Freedom is Hestia’s annual art and photography exhibition\, featuring work created by survivors of modern slavery. Each year\, the exhibition marks Anti-Slavery Day on 18th October. \nReturning for the fourth year running\, Art is Freedom enables participants to creatively express themselves and their story around the theme of hope. This year we worked with two volunteer artists to create a 6-week creative arts workshop in St. Faiths Church in Brentford and a online photography workshop. Each week\, participants explored a different media and learned new skills. Alongside this\, exhibition will inform visitors of the prevalence of modern slavery in the UK today. \nThis years exhibition is available for public viewing on Paternoster Square\, behind St. Pauls. The display will run from Monday 18th October – Monday 25th October.

SUMMARY:(In)Visible - online play about Modern Slavery
DESCRIPTION:(In)Visible was written in collaboration with the charity\, Croydon Community Against Trafficking and was aimed to highlight Modern Slavery in all of it’s forms and to make people aware of the warning signs. \nWe follow the ordeals of; \nChrissie – a British au pair who is subjected to domestic servitude when she agrees to work in America\nChiara – a Columbian farm worker\, brought to the UK to harvest her organs\nAgnesa – moved from Bulgaria to the UK with her 12 year old daughter\, and is subjected to sexual exploitation\nTemi – a Nigerian worker who has grown up being sold and being forced into labour around the UAE and UK. \nAfter a successful theatre run of (In)Visible (where audiences rated the show 5 stars for the portrayal\, honesty\, and exposure of this delicate subject)\, it has being adapted to suit the screen.

SUMMARY:At the Margins: The Sex Trafficking of LGBTQ+ Virtual Training
DESCRIPTION:LGBTQ+ youth are victimized by sex trafficking at a rate that is likely disproportionately greater than their non-LGBTQ+ peers. Yet\, they face a lack of culturally competent services that are safe for them. Let’s change that! Drawing on our common values of promoting the health\, safety\, and well-being of all youth\, this workshop addresses how we—youth-serving professionals—can better support LGBTQ+ victims of sex trafficking. Through a series of activities and brief presentations\, the workshop will cover terminology and concepts related to sexual orientation\, gender identity\, and gender expression and an overview of available research on risk factors and experiences unique to LGBTQ+ youth. Participants will also have an opportunity to begin to develop a strategic plan to better support LGBTQ+ victims. Professionals who have questions\, concerns\, or are apprehensive about this topic are encouraged to attend; this is a safe space to dialogue with your peers.
