Raising Voices Session III – Human Trafficking: Past, Present and Current Challenges.
Human trafficking is an extraordinarily complex and mostly hidden crime that has garnered ongoing attention from law enforcement, human rights advocates, and government policymakers. While research continues to evolve and cases are extremely underreported, data indicates that approximately 25 million people are trafficked worldwide, according to Polaris. The U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline Statistics indicated that in 2019 there were 22,326 trafficking victims and survivors. As disturbing as these numbers are, it is likely that they only capture a fraction of the actual situation.
